On-premises data gateway July 2020 update is now available

We are happy to announce that we have just released the July update for the On-premises data gateway (version 3000.51.7)

  • OAuth support via the gateway
  • July  Version of the mashup engine

OAuth support via the gateway

We have enabled OAuth via the On-premises data gateway for SQL Server and Kusto connectors. This will enable use of AAD credentials  for connecting to data sources like SQL Azure.

Note: This feature is only enabled for Import and not DirectQuery for SQL. For Kusto, both import and DirectQuery  will work.

In the example below while creating a SQL connection, you would see an option for OAuth2 in the authentication method.

Once you click on Edit, credentials, you can then sign in.

Note: You will have to be on a July 2020  gateway or later to be able to use this feature.

July version of the mashup engine

This month’s Gateway update also includes an updated version of the Mashup Engine, which will match the Power BI Desktop July update. This will ensure that the reports that you publish to the Power BI Service and refresh via the Gateway will go through the same query execution logic/run-time as in the latest Power BI Desktop version.

Please continue to send us feedback for what new capabilities you’d like to see in the future.
