Tech Tip Wednesday: Using the new On-premises Data Gateway

Microsoft's Guy in a Cube has been providing tips and tricks for Power BI and Business Intelligence on his YouTube channel since 2014. Usually every Thursday we highlight a different helpful video from his collection, but this week the tech tip is arriving a day early!

This week, Guy in a Cube reunites with Spud Trooper to discuss the new On-premises Data Gateway and how it affects users of the existing Power BI Gateway. Together they explain what has changed, and how the new gateway works with PowerApps, Microsoft Flow, and Logic Apps, as well as Power BI.

Thanks to the latest backup and restore improvements, you can now restore a backup file even when the dataset size is near the Power BI Premium SKU limitation. You no longer need to be concerned that dataset size limits impact restorability. When restoring a dataset with the /forceRestore option, Power BI will try its best to perform the restore operation even when the available memory is limited.
