What’s new in the June update of Power BI Report Builder

Now available in the Microsoft Store

Power BI Report Builder is now available as a preview release for download from the Microsoft Store. This empowers organizations that prefer to distribute and manage apps through the Microsoft Store to now do so with Power BI Report Builder. This version of Power BI Report Builder has been rebuilt as an x64 app, so you can expect this to provide performance improvements when designing and locally rendering paginated reports.

New data tab

You will notice this version of Power BI Report Builder has a brand new “Data” tab. Now, in addition to the current methods, from this tab you can easily connect to all the most popular data sources when creating your paginated reports.

Streamlined DAX copy/paste

Many customers enjoy using third-party tools or Power BI Desktop to generate their DAX queries for paginated reports.  Previously, users were required to first connect to the model in the tool to paste in their custom DAX query.  Now, customers can paste their DAX statement into the dataset without connecting to the model, allowing you to speed up report development when leveraging this method.

Other updates

  • We’ve added support for SSO for both SQL Server and Oracle data sources through the Power BI Enterprise Gateway.  Please consult the documentation for more details on data sources and methods we support.
  • A number of accessibility improvements and bug fixes have also been included in this release.
