Congratulations to the winners of the What If contest!

A few weeks ago we launched a “What If” contest to promote the release of our new What If feature in Power BI Desktop. Many of you were anticipating this feature for a while now, and we wanted to celebrate its arrival in style! We received a number of amazing submissions that showed off the creativity and flexibility that What If offers data analysts and report-makers. Each entry was reviewed by Power BI Program Managers Will Thompson and Amanda Cofsky, and they had such a difficult time deciding on a winner that we created two categories of winners: Fun and Business. See the winners!

How user feedback influences Microsoft Business Application development

Internally, Microsoft runs every aspect of the company using data. We refer to this as our “Data Culture”. As the leader of business intelligence and analytics for James Phillips, the Corporate Vice President who leads the Business Applications Group, I am often asked why and how we manage user feedback. With this post, I would like to share our practices around collecting and using data to accelerate development of business applications like Power BI, Power Apps, Microsoft Flow and the range of Dynamics 365 products.

Filters coming for phone reports

Reports are one of the most powerful features of Power BI. Several months ago, we introduced phone reports, and we continue to improve on them. Phone reports allow creators to optimize for the size, shape, and touch interaction of a phone, with minimal effort. Phone reports enhance the mobile experience, with features such as a dedicated focus mode for visuals, the ability to drill in visuals, sorting options, and collapsible menus. Today we’re excited to introduce filters as are our latest improvement to phone reports.
